I’m just back from seeing the muppets for a second time. There are so many things I love about that movie. The songs are very catchy, the dialogue is funny and it has one of my very favourite themes.
I love films where someone has a moment where they realise their own potential. I LOVE the moment when a character, often a secondary character claims their power. I’d love to give lots of examples here but off the top of my head I can only come up with a couple. There is the moment in Breaking Dawn part 1 when Jacob claims his power as an alpha. In The King’s Speech there is the moment when the king claims his voice, and therefore his right to be king. It happens for many characters at different points in their character development in Buffy the Vampire Slayer but most important for me is the moment when we see the potential slayers activated all over the world in season 7. And in the muppets it happens twice, for both Kermit but more importantly for Walter.
I love those moments because they remind me that I have a life and a kind of personal power to claim too. There are a few people in my life just now that I would love to have that moment, but unfortunately for me, life doesn’t normally give us these moments with a big orchestral swell. Mostly they creep up on us and we realise they have been after the event. It doesn’t have to be that way.
So, with that in mind, this is a call to arms! Writers, artists, scientists, musicians, actors, crafters, entrepreneurs, pioneers and dreamers. Stand up now! Right now! This is your time. You CAN do anything. You CAN be ANYTHING you want to be.
